From the records we obtained when we took Duncan in from Harbor Humane Society in May of 2010, this fella (born in March of 2006) came to them after having been abandoned in a condo for approximately 3 weeks back in March of 2010! Because of how their intake and adoption system works, Duncan wasn't tested for Feleuk or FIV until it was his time to be moved into the adoption area, so it was a real bummer for the staff when this great guy turned out positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency virus) <http://www.crashslanding.org/FivAndFelv.html> . Unable to long-term house or adopt out an FIV cat, Beth contacted us for help; thankfully the week before his arrival, one of our own, Shepherd was officially adopted by his foster mom, so we had room to take this fine fella in. PHEW! Darling Duncan came to HHS already neutered and front declawed, so at one point, his deadbeat, irresponsible owner did care enough to take him to the vet, but honestly, who in their right mind leaves behind their beloved pet in an empty house - without enough food or water to last more than a few days?!! I am assuming that there was indeed a water source readily available, or Duncan would have met a very horrific death by dehydration. But still, who does that to another living, breathing creature? His story tugs the heartstrings, and once you meet him, he works his magic on you! This cat certainly deserves all the best that our sanctuary can offer, and every single volunteer is ready, willing and able to give it to him 24/7, 365 days a year! Without fail, we will be there for him, and hopefully one day, we can find him a forever home of his own, where this gentle, loving boy won't ever have to worry about abandonment and neglect again! In the meantime, thanks to Julie Williams (and Shepherd) for sponsoring this great guy!
